Three practical steps toward God.

1. Listen. Really listen to God’s word. Do not become angry at what it tells you. Do not make excuses or argue with God’s word. Listen and accept. (v.19-20)2.  Decide to put away sin.  Whatever you are doing that is a violation of God’s instructions must stop.  Sin separates one from God and destroys.  Putting away the sin must happen before you can fully internalize God’s saving word.  (v.21)

3.  Do whatever the scriptures tell you to do.  Bible study does not help you until you conform to its instructions.  It is not enough to stop practicing evil. You must obey the word of God, doing what is good.  We may feel righteous when we read the Bible but we are deceiving ourselves if we are not following its instructions.  (v.22)

What are the three steps in James 1?

1)  Listen to God.

2)  Rid your life of all sin.

3)  Begin to do what God says.
