The word repent, in various forms, is found at least 59 times in the New Testament. Before Jesus even began His work, John the Baptizer preached: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand … bear fruit worthy of repentance” (Matthew 3:2, 9). To study the Bible seriously without any intention of changing, improving and growing will be conflicting and frustrating. The change that is called for is a ceasing of sin and a practicing of righteousness. God’s word identifies both categories and calls all people to change for the better — Repent!
