| In my Father’s house … What? |
|
Jesus told the twelve apostles, “In my Father’s house are many mansions … I go to prepare a place for you …” (John 14:1-2).
The word mansion stands for the Greek word that literally means a staying (place), abode, or dwelling. The English Standard Version says “many rooms.”
Heaven is not a place where all our material, earthly dreams are fulfilled to luxurious excess. Heaven is not about satisfying my fleshly, worldly desires. Living in a mansion may be my earthly goal, but it cannot be my spiritual desire.
If I make it to heaven it will be because I want to be with God! It will not be because of all my efforts to create an eternal, worldly paradise. If I make it to heaven it will be because I want to be as close to God as possible, in His house. Do you really want a mansion out on some hillside or do you want to have a place in God’s house? Pay attention to what Jesus actually promised.
