Learning the Lesson the Bible is Teaching

Do you find yourself reading the Bible to find something you want? If I am reading God’s word in search of answers I want to hear, it is possible I will miss the point the Lord is making! In John 3:3-4, we read about the new birth or being born again. Have you noticed how little is said about exactly what that birth is and how it happens? “Water and Spirit” is all that is given but what does that mean? Jesus did not really explain the birth in this passage. So what is the point? Jesus is telling Nicodemus that, in order to be in God’s true kingdom, he needs something more than a physical birth that makes him a descendant of Abraham. Nicodemus needed to be born again in a new and different way. Let’s not miss the point and fill in with our own personal interpretation of what the new birth is like. So, how IS a person born of the water and the Spirit? We need to go to other passages for answers to that question. Let’s learn the lesson the Bible is teaching! Study verses in their context.
