Remember to Do Good and Share
“But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased” (Hebrews 13:16).
Some of us might make the mistake of giving ourselves to religious service in reading the scriptures, praying, worshipping in the assembly, living a moral life and standing for the truth as it is written in His word, while neglecting to do good and to share with our neighbors. Have you considered how often the Lord speaks of caring for the poor, oppressed and fallen? It is a major theme in both testaments! Do not forget to do good and to share.
Some of us are very attentive to the needs of our fellow-man. We give to the beggars, take food to support the sick and grieving. We readily loan or give to people in financial crisis, and take time to talk and pray with those who are suffering emotionally. However, we do not study God’s word. We do not give ourselves to prayer, worship, assembling with God’s people. We are not concerned about truth. We are not worried about our sin.
We cannot specialize in our service to God. We must be faithful in all things. Give yourself to the study of His word so that you can be a faithful disciple that has grown into “the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:13).
