| What’s the difference in your church and other churches? |
|
People choose churches like they choose other products — compare features and select the one that is preferred. That is fine for selecting products of human creation. The church of the Lord is of divine origin, has Christ as its head and is ruled by His word given through the apostles (Matthew 16:16-20, Ephesians 1:20-23, 2 Peter 1:19-21). That is the church I choose. So, what is the difference in that church and other churches? A quick and simple answer can be seen in Acts 2. In this chapter the Holy Spirit comes upon the apostles and they begin to preach the saving gospel of Jesus Christ. Those who believed the message were baptized and “that day about three thousand souls were added to them” (Acts 2:41). This body of about three thousand people was the church! It is described and its activities are recorded in the following paragraphs and chapters. Please notice what is said about them in verse forty-two: “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine…” Doctrine simply means teaching. Christians continue in the teaching of the apostles. Christians continue to hear and follow (obey) the instructions of the Lord’s apostles. An important question for you to consider is “What’s the difference between the Lord’s church and any other church?” The answer is: The Lord’s church continues in the apostles’ teaching. Other churches do not. Other churches accept some or even most of the teaching given by the apostles, but changes are made here and there according to peoples’ preferences. Any time such a choice is made, the Lord’s rule is undermined. That is why there is so much variety in “Christian Churches.” They are not continuing in the apostles’ doctrine, they are continuing in other teaching, doing what they prefer rather than what Christ reveals. I want to be in the Lord’s church, so, I try to give careful attention to all the apostles taught, in all areas. Let me know if you would like to discuss this matter further. I encourage you to read Acts chapter two, carefully, and consider the word of the Lord. Call Don — 212-729-8356.
